The Seattle Salmon Seasons listed below are estimated times of the year that certain species of Salmon come into the Pudget Sound waters around Seattle. These Salmon Seasons are based on a calendar year.
The first species of Salmon to show up in the Seattle waters are what we call Winter Blackmouth (winter kings/chinook) They typically start showing up about November and stay in the waters until April.
After Winter Blackmouth the resident Coho Silvers typically starts in June. These fish are in our waters year round but the best fishing is later spring and early summer.
The Spring Summer Chinook (kings) typically start mid July and go through August. Some fish will be in our waters in June but July is when they really start showing up in large schools.
Every other year pink salmon (humpies) typically in Puget sound mid August through September. These fish are on an odd year schedule so 2019 we will see them and then not again until 2021.
Early in the fall the Ocean Run Cohos will be in our waters. These are great fish to catch and when they are in you will know it.
Chum Salmon or Dog Salmon typically run October through November.
Dungeness crab seasons will vary please check the Washington State Regulations of more details.
Flounder sole or sand dab are available year round. Although there are times when they are easier to catch than others.
Dog fish shark, not to be confused with Dog Salmon, are also available year round.
As mentioned at the beginning of this post, these are just estimates based on years of tracking the different Salmon arrival times. Please check the Washington State Fishing Regulations to make sure that you can fish for these species. The State is very proactive and protecting the Salmon runs and they will open and close seasons based on how many fish have shown up and how many fish have been harvested.
