Seattle Salmon Charters Are Not All The Same

Seattle Salmon Charters are all regulated by various agencies such as the Coast Guard,  Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife,  Marine Board , etc.   The purpose is provide passengers and fishermen with a safe time on the water and to help the fisheries maintain their  Salmon Runs for many years in the future.

Because of recent events there have been some newer Captains entering the business.  With all the things on their plates sometimes things may bet overlooked in the minutia of details that have to be considered.   If you are going out with a Seattle Salmon Charters that you are not familiar with then you may want to as some qualifying questions to make sure your trip is as peasant as possible.  These questions are:

  • Do you have a current Captains License?
  • Have you had a recent Coast Guard Inspection?
  • Do you have a valid Captains License
  • How long have you run Sports Fishing boats?
  • Is the Boat Covered?
  • Does it have a clean and private bathroom?
  • What type of Salmon do you anticipate catching on the date of the trip?
  • Do you clean my catch for me?

Hopefully the Captain will answer all of these questions for you satisfactorily.   The real reason for these questions is for you to get a “feel” for this particular Seattle Salmon Charter.  If there is any doubt in your mind about your safety then your may want to reconsider booking a trip.

A couple other things that may make your trip one to remember is “Do you have a first mate on board?”.   If not then be ready to do a lot of the fish handling and rod baiting during your trip.   The Captain is usually behind the wheel and handling both the duties of the first mate and captain are a bit overwhelming..
