Resident Coho Salmon fishing in Puget Sound continues to be outstanding with limits being a caught on a regular basis. We are expecting the Coho fishing to continue to be hot for the rest of the season.

Recently we have been fishing near Point Jefferson which is just south of Edmonds and have have concentrating on waters with a depth of 25 to 65 feet. We are trolling 2 inch King Fisher Lite spoons followed with a 2 inch squid with just a touch of herring oil. We start the days trolling in the shallower depths and then move to the 65’ range in the early afternoons.

Coho are very aggressive arial fighters and takes the battle to the air on a regular basis. Pound for pound these fish are one of the besting fighting fish you will ever get on your line. These fish will try to shake the hook all the way to the boat so don’t let your guard down.

These Coho are in their rapid growth stage and are hitting almost anything that moves in front of them. These fish are currently feeding on shrimp and krill, which makes their flesh a bright red and are delicious eating. Many people consider the Coho as their most favorite of all salmon to eat. Coho do not have as much oil in them so remember to add butter, olive oil or even mayo when cooking to replace the oil that cooks out. This keeps the meat moist and tender.

Coho are excellent baked, grilled, fried and even smoked. If you have never tried smoked Coho with your frosty beverage of choice you dont know what you are missing. Coho fillets can be kept in your freezer for up to a year, so you can enjoy your catch for many months to come.

Lets go get them!
